THE PLOT
The world is in terrible shape. The planet is being mauled by selfish industrialists whose appetite for destruction and power has no limits. The media is preaching dubious morals out of television sets and computer screens and these imprison individuals in a world wide trap which blinds them with an illusion of freedom of thought and of action. Things are so much out of hand that God is considering a Second Flood to cleanse Earth. Archangel Gabriel is not keen on this solution as he believes that human beings have it in them to redeem and ameliorate the state of affairs. Michael, on the other hand, is more pessimistic and is in favour of drastic measures. As they are discussing this issue with God, Mephistopheles, a devil, proposes a wager. He suggests they choose a champion amongst human beings and give him (Mephistopheles) 25 years in which to try and corrupt him and condemn his soul to hell. If he manages in his intent then the Flood happens; if not, human beings get another chance to get themselves out of this fix. God accepts the bet and chooses as his champion Johann Faustus, a very intelligent and pious man.
Faustus is a man who loves knowledge and the pursuit of it, but yet manages to balance this with his belief that whatever gifts he has were given to him by God. Therefore, Mephistopheles at first finds it hard to lure him into surrendering his soul to. However, the crafty devil employs the help of the Seven Deadly Sins, and together they convince him to give up his soul in exchange for ultimate knowledge.
In order for Faustus' soul to go to hell, he must not redeem during those 25 years that God granted Mephistopheles for the wager. Eva, a woman who hates Faustus because he had her lover imprisoned and killed, makes him doubt the wisdom of his choices. This turn of events angers Mephistopheles who does the unthinkable in order to keep Faustus' soul.
