We're now into the third week of the characterization process, so we thought of catching up with another actor for an interview. Today we're meeting Tricia, who'll be playing the part of Eva.
Hi Tricia, thanks for accepting to do this interview. My Pleasure.
Why did you audition for this production? What triggered your interest?
It has been 2 years since I performed in some way, so I felt I needed to come back and this time since the play is in English I wanted to have a good part.
Was it easy to decide which character you wanted to audition for? How did you prefer yourself for the audition?
Well, first I thought I wanted to be Mephistopheles as I felt I could do with a big challenge but then I just fell in love with Eve's character as she is very similar in my ways. I rehearsed by downloading some top feminist speeches from the internet and got some ideas on what to say, but then it all boiled down to writing my own feelings in a feministic way. Rehearsing it was then easy as it felt like it was me already.
What was your first reaction when Bryan asked you to play the part of Eva?
I was thrilled…I'm so happy about it!
How did you find the script? What did you really like about it?
I love the script....its witty, its fun and I found it enjoyable to read even with the topic being so deep. Most of all I like Eva's sharp and direct tongue…may be that is what made me fall in love with her character the most.
You have worked under Bryan 's direction for ten years now. How do you find his methods?
I have worked with other directors both in Malta and abroad. Bryan is very professional and understanding; I remember once when I went to rehearsals for Gurija Rabjata, I was not prepared well enough for his tastes and warned me in a very direct but polite way. He scares me but I prefer a director like that as I know where I stand and I know that what he says he really means. He doesn't have any BS.
You've also been in a TV drama with Bryan. Is he any different on set?
Not really, though I think he is more stressed out with TV due to the fact that things sometimes don't go according to plan and he cant do anything about…Yet, having said that he always tries to make us actors comfortable and passes one or two jokes here and there.
What's your best memory in a lemonhead production?
Every production is different and everyone of them has its special moments even in those when I was in the production team as wardrobe mistress. I can't choose a best memory in any of them…but may be the best moment would be when I was still a student in my third year and for our end of term production, the team I was in won best production, while I won best actor.
There are a few new faces within the Faustus group that you've never worked with before, how does it make you feel?
Im looking forward to getting to know them, and with my character it wont be difficult!
What was your feeling after the first cast meeting?
I hope nobody gets offended – Eva says some nasty words. Apart from that I'm really looking forward to starting off.
Did you start working on the character profile?
Well, yes and no…yes because I feel that I have understood her character and no because I still need to build her history well enough for me to really BE the character.
Thanks a lot for your time. That's it?? Joking, you are welcome! |
