3 Gimghat was part of the Drama Fest organised at the St James Theatre – Valletta . It was the first time Lemonhead took part in such an event, and it was a very interesting experience for all those involved.
Several drama groups applied to take part in this national event, and a panel, headed by Ms. Josette Ciappara, went through the applications, scripts and finally met with the producers to discuss their proposals.
'We were all thrilled when we heard the news that we were in the festival. It's always interesting to be involved in such events. The organisers ought to be applauded for such a great idea and incentive', said Bryan Muscat. 'To have a number of drama groups, showpiecing their talent in one event is a huge experience for all of us, and for the general public interested in local drama. In such events we learn more'.
The writing process of Tlett Gimghat was not an easy one, since it had to be between 20 and 30 minutes short. Lemonhead's previous works were all around the 2 hour mark. So a lot of thinking went along the way. ‘It's not easy to write a short play, as you have to make sure that the characterisation is well developed in such a short time; however, it was a challenge that I relished', said writer Bryan Muscat.
Chrysander Agius, Louise Muscat and Bryan Muscat brain stormed together about a topic and a story line. The main idea was to have a character interpreting various characters, and that is where the whole plot developed from.
The story revolved around a wealthy businessman dying of Aids… 3 weeks left! Not a single one of his so called ‘friends' came to visit him at hospital. He wasn't a very ‘popular' figure. However, a former employee of his, Matthew, was the only visitor. Matthew was fired by John, the businessman, a few weeks before. However Matthew feels for the man, and decides no one deserves to die on his own. A battle of words and ideas ensues in this very first black comedy by Bryan Muscat. All five performances were greatly welcomed by the audience, and Lemonhead managed to have full houses on each occasion.
The feedback was overwhelming.
